Orthopedic Surgery
Shoulder Arthroscopy- Arthroscopy allows your surgeon to see and work inside your shoulder joint through small incisions. A long, thin, lighted instrument called an arthroscope is used. During surgery, the arthroscope sends live video images from inside the joint to a monitor. Using these images, the surgeon can diagnose and treat your shoulder problem. Arthroscopy can be used to treat: Impingement, Torn Rotator Cuff, Stretched or Torn Capsule, Torn Labrum, Arthritis and Loose Bodies.
Shoulder Replacement- The Orthopedic Surgeon replaces the damaged natural joint with an artificial joint called a prosthesis. Replacement is used to treat a damaged shoulder from either: Osteoarthritis, Inflammatory (rheumatoid) arthritis, a shoulder fracture, avascular necrosis or a large rotator cuff tear. When recommending replacement, your surgeon considers how this surgery can benefit you over your lifetime. Talk to your surgeon about your needs, wants, and goals.
Knee Arthroscopy- Arthroscopy allows your surgeon to see and work inside your knee through small incisions. A long, thin, lighted instrument called an arthroscope is used. During surgery, the arthroscope sends live video images from inside the joint to a monitor. Using these images, the surgeon can diagnose and treat your knee problem. Common knee problems: Meniscus Tears, ACL Tears, Cartilage Wear, Patella Problems. Common Treatment Options: Meniscus Removal or Repair, Ligament Reconstruction, Cartilage Shaving or Smoothing, Patella Smoothing or Release.
Knee Replacement- The Orthopedic Surgeon replaces the damaged natural joint with an artificial joint called a prosthesis. Replacement is used to treat a damaged Knee Joint. Depending on your age and the amount of damage to your knee, your surgeon may recommend replacing all (Total Knee Prosthesis) or only part (Partial Knee Prosthesis) of the joint. Either way, the new prosthesis will provide a smooth surface for easier joint movement. When recommending replacement, your surgeon considers how this surgery can benefit you over your lifetime. Talk to your surgeon about your needs, wants, and goals.
Total Hip Replacement- The Orthopedic Surgeon replaces the damaged natural joint with an artificial joint called a prosthesis. Replacement is used to treat a damaged hip from: Osteoarthritis, Inflammatory Arthritis, Fracture or Necrosis. When recommending replacement, your surgeon considers how this surgery can benefit you over your lifetime. Talk to your surgeon about your needs, wants, and goals.
Neuro/Ortho-spine Surgery
Cervical Disk Surgery- The cervical spine is the top part of the spine. It lies in the neck. Disks are cushions between the bones of the spine. They absorb shock with movement and help keep the neck flexible.
-
Anterior Cervical Disk Surgery-most of a problem disk is removed (diskectomy). To reach the disc, an incision is made in the front (anterior) of the neck. After the disk is removed, two or more vertebrae may be fused together. Or, the problem disk may be replaced with an artificial one.
-
Posterior Cervical Disk Surgery-In some cases, the disk is reached through the back (posterior) of the neck. With this approach, bone may be removed from the vertebra to enable your surgeon to reach the disk. A portion of the disk is then removed (diskectomy).
Lumbar Spinal Surgery-Vertebrae are bones that stack like building blocks to make up the spine. The lumbar spine contains the five bottom vertebrae in the back. To reach your spine, the surgeon may make an incision in your back (posterior approach), or in your abdomen (anterior approach). Decompression surgeries are used to relieve pressure on a nerve. This may be done by removing bone from a part of the vertebrae. It may also be done by removing some or all of the disk. A combination of procedures is often used.
-
Laminotomy- removes a portion of the lamina
-
Laminectomy- removes the entire lamina
-
Diskectomy- removes a portion of a damaged disk
-
Disk Replacement- replaces a damaged disk with a new disk of manmade materials
Spinal Fusion Surgery- Spinal fusion surgery makes the spine more stable. This can help ease low back pain. During the surgery, bone graft is put between two or more vertebrae. Over time, the bone graft and nearby bone grow into a solid unit. The surgery can be done several ways and your surgeon can describe how your procedure will be done.
